There was a nice little honker blowing as I arrived at Datchet today at the end of racing!! Team members looking suitably tired, so it must have been good! Pre-AGM there was no chat about the racing, but it looked a good fleet of seven or eight boats. We’ll have to wait for the official Club Results to see the order of the day.
The first piece of news was that Mervyn fell overboard in a tack – ha ha ha ha !!! Great day for it!! Funny comment of the day was from Mike Firth, …. “Well, at least we know he floats….”!!!
Then Mervyn (dried out) ran one of the most enjoyable, lively, engaging AGM’s in recent memory. John Hanson took minutes ‘live’ so we shall see them pretty soon. We had great discussions about training/coaching, various ideas to boost numbers etc. Plus we got free Lasagne and Chips – which we got because the office staff raved about it… and it was actually very good!
In the prize giving section, the main feature was Andy and Agness winning the summer series in 3911 – just brilliant news in their first season with the new boat!!!
It looks like we are going to drop our October Open Meeting. It seems the Southern Traveller Series idea just doesn’t work so well down South and the Datchet Autumn Open was previously billed as the Southern Travellers final. So if the STS seems to be fading out through lack of support, so we shall drop the autumn meeting in line with that.
Nigel King, as always, was full of great contributions and ideas. One viewpoint I noted from an RYA Coaches Meeting was that most double handed classes are under pressure now, and mainly the single-handed classes are thriving – interesting….Mervyn drew up some very interesting statistics about our fleet (which I shall publish on the “FF Blog”) which suggested that we have good growth trajectory in our fleet. We’ll see…..
