Father’s days resulted in a few boats not sailing this week, the Millar’s and Richard were missing. Howard however agreed to sail with Mervyn, and turned up at 8.57!!!!!!! See picture for proof (should have put daily newspaper and wristwatch in photo – Ed.!!!) . 8 boats rigged this morning, Roger decided to have a day sail with a new crew, the Hughes had tiller problem which resulted them in missing the races.
Race 1 was using the whole lake, the fleet split as soon as the starting gun went, with the Linder’s + Mervyn going right; Andy and Mark going left. The wind was 7 to 14 MPH and very shifty resulting in the wise head of Mike Firth playing the shifts just right and getting first to the top mark, followed by Mark Firth, second then John, Andy, Ian and Mervyn however, due to the wind shifts the fleet had really spread out.
Mike lost the lead on the first reach due to no spinnaker halyard (I think it had come undone during the pre race practice). Mark and John battled for the lead and swapped places a few times however Mark showed great speed and won John and Helen second, Linder’s third and I am not sure after that.
Race two was dramatically shortened and was very frustrating as the wind dropped off and shifted resulting in a precession. In saying that the Linder’s out sailed the fleet and won, with Mark second John third, Mervyn forth and Andy a very close 5th.
See you all next weekend
